We made it to Sierra Leone!
Our journey consisted of a car, a plane, a plane, another plane, a bus, another plane, another bus, a ferry and then a van and we made it to our ship! Wow that was a doozy of a travel experience... roughly 33 hours in the end. Praise God that we made every connection and our luggage did too.
On our way we met several people in the Brussels airport that were on the same flight as us and also heading to Mercy Ships. They were from England, The Netherlands, Oregon, Belgium, Germany and Denmark. It was so fun to connect with them and find out what they are doing on the ship and how long they are staying etc. There are a few nurses, a dentist, a couple working in dining and more.
Our first day consisted of waking up for an all hands meeting at 7:45 which was a doozy considering our long travel and lack of sleep. But after that it was mostly exploring the ship and unpacking and finding the coffee shop and meeting people. Our room is really nice. you can see an image here. We have settled in and had a ship tour and tomorrow we both get trained and get to work!
Dear Friends and Family, As you may know, Ruth and I are embarking on an adventure with Mercy Ships! We will be going to Sierra Leone for 2 months for her and 1 month for me. We leave on April 18 and are busy trying to tackle all of the last minute details. Mercy Ships is an organization that has 2 hospital ships that bring hope and healing directly to those that cannot get it normally. Typical surgeries they perform are cleft palate repair and tumor removal. If you’d like more information they have a good website https://www.mercyships.org/ . They also have a reality show on Angel TV that shows what ship life is like etc. We will be on the Global Mercy. It is the ship on the right in the image below. It is 570 feet long and can hold up to 950 people. We will both live onboard and hope to explore the local area in our time off. We anticipate working full time for our season onboard. Ruth will be working as a Nurse in the pediatric ward. I will be working in Hospitality. W...
So happy to know you made it!!!
